Miranda in a self-rightous 'Bind'

Self rightousness personified??? David Miranda has signed Bindmans LLP, a firm of UK lawyers, to get back 'his' laptop computer and other, apparently, top secret electronics that he was handed by 'whistleblower' Edward Snowden. Well, at least, he's not getting legal aid - I guess the Gruaniad will be paying Bindman's bills. Bindmans will argue that GCHQ's spooks and the Border Agency acted illegally when they detained Miranda at Heathrow. Miranda is the boyfriend of Glen Greenwald, a Guardian journalist.  These facts may not be relevant, but they ARE interesting if salacious: Greenwald, an Americam,  46. Mirande is 28. The full text of Bindman's 'give me back our laptop' letter is here at the excellent Boing Boing  blog: . http://boingboing.net/2013/08/20/david-mirandas-lawyers-nasty.html Gruaniad self-rightous hypocricy: http://www.spectator.co.uk/the-week/leading-article/9000981/freedom-and-security/

Super Cal’s switch to Ducati a gamble

Image
Super Cal’s switch to Ducati a gamble I really hope Cal Crutchlow’s two-year deal to ride for Ducati next year works out; but it’s a gamble. It’s Cal’s first full factory ride in MotoGP and that’s the main reason for the switch, plus a pay packet that will set him up for life. But with Ducatis finishing down with the CRT bikes this year, the prospects don’t look encouraging. Cal, who has had four podium finishes for Yamaha's satellite team Tech 3 this year, is positive, telling the BBC, “ e told t I'm getting closer to the guys at the front and starting to challenge for wins. "I don't want to take a step back, so the next thing is to be in a factory team, but it has to be the one with the right machinery." Cal replaces 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden at Ducati and rejoins former Tech 3 team-mate Andrea Dovizioso. But what can Ducati give Cal that will break their embarrassing reign of bad luck? They have not won a race since Casey S...

Cat-astrophic waste of public money

Heard the one about the cat rescue that involved two police cars, two fire engines and a two hour road closure? It’s true! It happened Cheltenham last week and it cost us thousands.   Who said the public services were cash-strapped? Apparently the RSPCA called out the emergency services.   So my question is, will they pick up the bill?  I don’t want public money squandered in this way. My campaign to get the RSPCA – one of Britain’s richest charities – to pick up the bill.   Honk if you agree! Don’t believe me about this farce?   Read it here: Cat rescue descends into farce after police and fire service close road , http://www.telegraph.co.uk

Cowabunga madness

Danger – cows!   How sad, how mad – dog walker injured by stampeding cow provokes call for warning signs Here’s the story – a woman’s dog provokes a herd of cows who rush and injure her.   Now her misguided mum wants countryside warning signs to say, “cows with calves (may) be dangerous!” Emma Moody was crossing a field in St Martin, Cornwall, when her dog disturbed a herd of cows and their young calves.   Some might say the cows were only doing what any mother would do and protect their young. But they charged Emma. Now her distraught mum says, “If only there had been a warning sign that cows with calves could be dangerous, then Emma wouldn’t have entered the field.” You couldn’t make it up. “These recommendations should become law to ensure no other family has to go through what we’ve had to contend with.” My view, of course, is that pet dogs have no place in the countryside. See what you think: Apologies, it’s the Daily Mail|: www.dailymail...
