Bye bye Qatada (and his state-funded lawyer?
Great news that our EU legal masters say we can now deport Abu Qatada, the Jordanian cleric linked to Al Qaida, back home. Or at least British courts can now decide on his deportation.
So far Qatada has cost us at least £1.5 million in legal aid and lined the pockets of his solicitor Gareth Peirce. So now, I confidently expect Mr Peirce to follow his client back to Jordan , to represent his interests at his trial for terrorism crimes.
Qatada is also on benefits, along with the rest of his council-accommodated family.
The Muslim cleric, also known as Omar Mahmoud Mohammad Othman is wanted in his home country to stand trial for involvement in terror attacks. He has been tried and found guilty (in his absence) of terrorism offences in Jordan . He has been described as “Osama bin Laden’s right-hand man in Europe .”
He is also a preacher of hate.
Qatada claimed asylum in Britain in 1993, but officials say he is a threat to British security and should be deported before London hosts the Olympic Games.
He has been in and out of jail since he was first detained without charge under British anti-terrorism laws in 2002.
The Jordanians have guaranteed Qatada a fair trial, their Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and official government spokesman, Rakan al-Majali, said Jordan will offer every guarantee of a fair trial in the kingdom.
He said constitutional reforms instituted last year inJordan prohibit all forms of torture or physical or psychological abuse in the country and also would not take credit of any confessions under torture or intimidation.
"The Jordanian government will follow up this case, from its various aspects, with all relevant foreign authorities according to valid rules in that regard," added Majali.

Latest estimates of the cost – to us – of representing Muslim terror suspects is more than £110 million over the last ten years. telegraph.co.uk/terrorism-in-the-uk
Like many preachers of hate, Qatada came to Britain in 1993 claiming that they faced persecution at home. Oh, what fools we are!
Little known hate preacher fact - Qatada was born in Bethlehem . He came to the UK in 1993 and is among a large group of Islamists who fled from the Middle East to London because they faced persecution
