Tweets, imbeciles and 56 days 'bird'

Liam Stacey is a 21 year old university student. He's also an imbecile.  But as he starts a 56 days jail term for inciting racial hatred - he posted offensive Twitter comments about Fabrice Muamba as the footballer lay collapsed on a pitch - I have to ask, ‘does the time fit the crime?’

I’d say the sentence is somewhat OTT, not that there's any 'tweeting' precedence.  Swansea District Judge John Charles seems to be saying more about PC Britain, rather than a giving an apporopriate punishment.  I’d have had Stacey publically humiliated, not given a term that seems more appropriate for serious grievious bodily harm.

The Swansea University biology undergraduate’s tweets revolted me and millions.  His first began, "LOL. F*** Muamba. He's dead!!!" More followed.

As other Twitter users remonstrated with him, Stacey responded with further offensive comments.
Swansea District Judge John Charles told him: "In my view there is no alternative to an immediate prison sentence."
