“Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts … we’ll shortly be landing at Croydon International Airport!”

Oh no – this is too much! Councillor Steve O'Connell, Croydon’s London Assembly member, wants Gatwick airport re-named ‘Croydon International.’

With no sense of irony the Croydon Guardian reports him as saying Gatwick should be reborn with closer links to the "economic powerhouse" of south London.

Welcome to Croydon International!  Only 20 miles away!

Well, I have a better idea – why not re-name Gatwick Balham International?  After all it’s long been known as the ‘Gateway to the South’.
