Tesco's Covid response - Capitalism to the rescue

For all those Corbynistas out there who claim that we’d never have Coronavirus if it wasn’t for evil Capitalists, I’d like to say how reassured I am at the way private business has responded to this unprecedented crisis.

As a Tesco customer I get regular updates from CEO ‘Dave’ Lewis.  Do you know what, I feel I know him!

This week ‘Dave’ emailed me to say that Tesco were building a ‘pop up’ store in the new Nightingale hospital in the Birmingham NEC Centre.  NHS staff will get 24-hour access. More pop-up will follow.
Tesco is also the ‘retail partner’ of SalutetheNHS.org which will provide one million free meal parcels to frontline NHS workers. Tesco is donating all the food and ingredients used in the production of these.
‘Dave’ also said he’s paying all his vulnerable, pregnant and self-isolating colleagues from day one. He’s introduced a 10% bonus for workers in stores, distribution centres and the call centre.
All in store staff are getting a 15% discount on all their Tesco shopping for the next four weeks.
